![]() ![]() It doesn't matter that Thea's the one who loves Blake's jokes, or that his dimples make her want to keep causing his smiles forever. ![]() She encourages Jem to look for the other people who aren’t all bad or who somehow tried to help Atticus and Robinson. Thea is the first to meet the gorgeous hockey player but as soon as she finds out he might be Doe'sBlake, she takes her best shot at getting the two of them to hit it off. The white, three-inch-wide double blooms rest against a compact mat of dense, glossy green foliage. This makes it a perfect specimen for smaller planting areas or containers. ![]() Following the trial, Miss Maudie tries to impress upon Jem in particular that Atticus did a necessary and important thing by defending Tom Robinson, even though he knew he wasn’t going to win. Most camellias top out at between six to 12 feet in height, but as a dwarf variety, October Magic White Shi Shi only grows to about three feet tall. Miss Maudie is opinionated and willing to express her views, and as such, often calls out Miss Stephanie and others for gossiping and spreading rumors. She’s adamant that Arthur Radley is just different, not evil, and she suggests that he’s suffered abuse of some kind at home from his overly religious father. Miss Maudie, like Atticus, has an innate sense of morality and believes that all people deserve to be treated with respect and compassion. ![]() She’s a mostly benign presence in Scout’s life until Jem and Dill begin excluding her, at which point Scout begins spending more time with Miss Maudie and decides they’re friends after Miss Maudie shows Scout her bridgework (fake teeth). Miss Maudie is in her 40s and a widow, and she loves to garden but hates her house. ![]() ![]() ![]() There were two main ecemomical reason BC was settled the western terminus of the CPR in Vancover and Mining. There are a lot of books on the History of BC that you can't download, some you can. I don't think they are downloadable though: The Dear Canada books (young adults) by Scholastic might be a possibility. You also need to read about Emily Carr of Victoria. You also need to know the name of Alice Munro (1931 - ) whose ex-husband John Munro lately passed on his namesake bookstore in Victoria on Government Street to his staff. ![]() Other Canadian authors of some significance write about other things, like Margaret Atwood, Carol Shields and Michael Ondaatje - who wrote The English Patient. For non-fiction some of our iconic authors who wrote about Canada are Farley Mowat (1921 - 2014) and Pierre Berton (1920-2004). The above thread was developed a couple of years ago for fiction in BC. ![]() ![]() ![]() Bouvet’s Cape of the Circumcision, where he was unable to land owing to the icebergs, is now known to be the island that was named after him by the American whaler Benjamin Morrell (1795-1839) in 1822. The map frequently mentions icebergs, freezing temperatures and glaciers icebergs are even drawn in places. Moreover, the text describes Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier’s (1704-1786) voyage to the south, which lasted from 19 July 1738 to 24 June 1739. Despite the frequent Bad Archaeologists’ statements that the map was published in 1737, it gives the date of publication as 5 September 1739. According to the title of the map, it is a ‘ Carte des Terres Australes comprises entre le Tropique du Capricorne et le Pôle Antarctique où se voyent les nouvelles découvertes faites en 1739 au Sud du Cap de Bonne Esperance’ (‘Map of the Southern Lands contained between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Antarctic Pole, where the new discoveries made in 1739 to the south of the Cape of Good Hope may be seen’). Philippe Buache’s map (supposedly of 1739, although, as we shall see, there are complications with the date) has suffered the same fate as Piri’s and Orontius Finaeus’s maps, to be used as evidence for an ancient civilisation that mapped Antarctica when it was free from ice. Tilly and her friends have to go find the Archivists, and save all the books before it’s too late! There is clean magic, fun characters, and a magical train that can take you anywhere! Other than that, the book was very clean. If it is sneaked in the book hidden for a kid to find, that is wrong! I should not have to read something I don’t want to read about. However! I do not think LGBT should be in a child’s book!!! If the book says on the outside it has LGBT then that’s fine. But the weird couple really ruined it for me. This is the 3rd book in the Pages & Co series. And then yesterday I finished it, and I was sadly right about the couple……. “Sigh…” I had received this book for Christmas, and at first I was really excited to read it! However, when I was only a few chapters in a weird couple showed up and I knew they were LGBT… So I refused to read it for quite a few weeks. ![]() ![]() If you’d like to retain your premium access and save 20%, you can opt to pay annually at the end of the trial.
